Each year since 1956 the United Irish Societies of Montreal has organized a contest to select a queen and princesses for the annual parade. Originally called the Queen’s Pageant and held at the Sailor’s Club in Old Montreal, today the Selection Evening is a public speaking contest held at Plaza Centreville downtown.
Criteria for Entry
Individuals interested in participating in this event must be:
- Of Irish descent
- Single Woman – 18 to 25 years of age
- Permanent resident of the Montreal area
- Willing to attend functions during February and March, mainly on weekends
Note: The Queen and Court are exclusive to the Montreal St. Patrick’s Parade. They may not accept similar positions in any other 2018 St. Patrick’s Parades.
The Selection Evening is an opportunity for the participants to:
- Explore their Irish roots
- Meet new and interesting people
- Attend gala events (Queen and Court)
- Travel to Ireland (Queen)
- Receive many gifts

Round tables of ten are available for your family and friends to share and participate in the excitement of this special evening. The evening is enhanced with the inclusion of Irish entertainment (dance and song). It begins at 7:00 P.M. and ends at approximately 11:15 P.M.
There is no food served at this event. There is a cash bar. Food is provided for the contestants in their closed quarters.
Price: 25$ (Adults) or 12$ (Children under 12)
