BOURSE D’ETUDES CATHERINE POLSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS
(English below) Je voudrais remercier tous ceux qui ont soumis une candidature pour la Bourse commémorative Catherine Polson, et j’ai le plaisir de vous informer qu’il y a cette année DEUX gagnantes. Cette année a été exceptionnelle, car un groupe de notre communauté (le Tournoi de golf Crown Classic) a proposé d’offrir une bourse supplémentaire, égale au montant de la bourse initiale ($2000)

Nos gagnantes sont Mia Simard et Charlotte McFall.
Mia Simard est étudiante en ingénierie à l’Université Concordia, où elle a fièrement représenté les Sociétés irlandaises unies en tant que Princesse de parade en mars 2024. Dans ce rôle, elle a promu l’importance de l’héritage irlandais à Montréal et inspiré de jeunes garçons et filles en montrant que les femmes peuvent être à la fois des leaders et des princesses. Membre passionnée de la communauté irlandaise de Montréal, Mia a également enseigné le rugby au Club de rugby irlandais de Montréal et partagé la culture irlandaise par des performances de danse avec l’école de danse irlandaise Bernadette Short. Son histoire familiale profondément ancrée dans le comté de Cork motive son engagement envers la communauté et le patrimoine.
Charlotte McFall est étudiante en soins infirmiers au Collège Montmorency et a été sélectionnée pour se rendre en Afrique en juin prochain dans le cadre de l’organisation Médecins sans frontières. Elle a grandi immergée dans la communauté irlandaise de Montréal, inspirée par sa participation aux soirées de sélection de la Reine et de la Cour de parade avec ses grands-parents. Elle a été une bénévole active à l’Association sociale et sportive d’Innisfail, aidant à la préparation des événements, servant des repas et gérant des tirages lors d’événements comme le Céilí de Noël. Charlotte apprécie les solides relations qu’elle a construites et est déterminée à redonner à la communauté qui l’a toujours soutenue.

Ma plus profonde gratitude va au comité de bourse de cette année : Mike Kennedy, Howie Myers et Me. Ashley Trainor, ainsi qu’aux bailleurs de fonds de la bourse : Me. Pamela McGovern, Kayra Morrison, Dr. George Polson et le Comité du Tournoi de golf Crown Classic pour avoir fourni une bourse supplémentaire cette année : Jamie Robert, RJ James, Patrick Deschamps, Keith Pine, Shawn Doyle et Brandon Doyle. Je suis honorée de voir l’implication remarquable de notre communauté, cela reflète véritablement l’esprit de Catherine.

I would like to thank everyone who submitted an application to the Catherine Polson Memorial Scholarship and I am pleased to inform you that this year, we have TWO winners. This year was exceptional in that a group from our community (The Crown Classic Golf Tournament) stepped up to offer an extra scholarship, matching the amount of the original ($2000).

Our winners are Mia Simard, and Charlotte McFall.
Mia Simard is an engineering student at Concordia University who proudly represented the United Irish Societies as a Parade Princess in March 2024. In this role, she promoted the importance of Irish heritage in Montreal and inspired young boys and girls by showing that women can be both leaders and princesses. A passionate member of the Montreal Irish community, Mia has also taught rugby at the Montreal Irish Rugby Football Club and shared Irish culture through dance performances with the Bernadette Short school of Irish dance. Her deep-rooted family history from County Cork drives her commitment to community and heritage.
Charlotte McFall is a nursing student at College Montmorency and has been selected to go to Africa next June as part of the Nurses Without Borders organization. She has grown up immersed in Montreal’s Irish community, inspired by attending Parade Queen and Court Selection Evenings with her grandparents. She has been an active volunteer at the Innisfail Social & Sports Association, assisting with event preparations, serving meals, and managing raffles at events like the Christmas Céilí. Charlotte values the strong relationships she’s built and is dedicated to giving back to the community that has always supported her.
